Boating apparel ranges from functional to fashionable. Though people will disagree about which is more important, in either case, no one wants to be caught wearing the wrong thing. That is why the experts at Team Winnebagoland Marine Center have created this guide on what to wear on a boat.

Standard Fishing Gear

What attire will be best for your fishing trip depends upon where you’ll be going. For ocean anglers, warm and protective clothing is a must. Traditionally, ocean fishermen have worn heavy knitted sweaters made from cream-colored (undyed or natural) wool yarn, though these days you are more likely to see waterproofed hooded rain jackets. Waterproof high boots are popular  for fishing in the ocean, as well as for lake and river fishing, because they allow you to step into the water without getting your feet wet. Thick gloves are another historically popular choice, as they protect against rope burn and help you grip a fishing rod when things get cold and wet.

How to Dress for a Boat Party

Obviously, dressing for a boat party is a different situation, with a lot more focus on the aesthetic rather than the practical. Boat shoes are highly recommended, as they are both fashionable and help you avoid slipping on the deck. Nautical-themed decorations and accessories are popular choices, though try to avoid anything that will come off as tacky.
